The popular perception is that India has moved on from Dinesh Karthik post the 2019 World Cup.
According to me, he is India’s best bet as a wicket-keeper batsman in T20s. Here’s why;
1) MS Dhoni – There is a lot of confusion over the talisman from Ranchi. He has made himself unavailable till January and even after that he has to prove his match fitness and has to show some improvement in his hitting ability as he looked a pale shadow of himself in the World Cup.
2) Rishabh Pant – Rishab Pant has been given a plethora of opportunities but hasn’t quite grabbed this long rope that has been extended towards him.
3) Sanju Samson – This young man from Kerala surely deserves an opportunity but the problem is his game is suited more for the top 3 and unfortunately there is no vacancy there.
4) Ishan Kishan – Again like Sanju Samson he is talented but his favored position is in the top 3 of that batting line up.
Dinesh Karthik is still doing well for Tamil Nadu and his role is that of a finisher. Should he have a good IPL he must be considered for the World T20.
